Phase 1 - Assignment of Numbers

Well hi there! Welcome to a documentation on my adventures in learning how to solve a Rubik's cube.

But there's a catch. Doing it without looking.

And yes, I've thought about this for quite some time and have come up with a method on how to solve it in this way.

Phase 1 - Number Assignment.

My first thought process was to assign each position on the cube a number 1-26.

Why 1-26 you ask? There are 26 "Cubees" on the 3x3 Rubik's cube. This number is calculated this way:

(3*9)-1

The (-1) accounts for the Cubee in the middle that doesn't rotate or change positions. This makes for a total of 26.

Each piece is then given an ID, which is assigned to a number.

For example:

W = White Center
WB = White/Blue Edge
WR = White/Red Edge
Etc.

And the end result is this table:

So the next step is memorizing the number assigned to each piece. Then you can begin orienting yourself using algorithms.

Until next week!
